About Dr. Kathryn V. Isaac

Dr. Kathryn Isaac is a highly accomplished medical professional with a rich Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery background. Her academic journey began at the University of Toronto, where she completed her medical studies and specialized training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Dr. Isaac further honed her expertise with a craniofacial fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital and a subspecialization in breast reconstruction at the Health Sciences Center in Winnipeg. Complementing her surgical expertise, she also pursued a Master’s in Public Health at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

In September 2018, Dr. Isaac relocated to Vancouver, where she has since been a valuable asset to Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) and Providence Health Care (PHC), particularly in advancing breast reconstruction as a critical aspect of comprehensive breast cancer care in British Columbia and Canada.

Dr. Isaac’s work is driven by a deep understanding of the multifaceted impact of breast reconstruction surgery on women who have undergone mastectomies. Studies underscore the significant improvements in emotional, social, and functional well-being, vitality, body image, and general mental health following breast reconstruction.

Recognizing the complexities and challenges in the journey of breast cancer treatment, Dr. Isaac, as Chair, is committed to facilitating timely and equitable access to high-quality, personalized care for breast cancer patients seeking reconstruction. This mission involves collaborative efforts with patients, healthcare providers, administrators, and government bodies.

Her Chair program is grounded in clinical research across five key domains: system and process analysis, centralized care optimization, outcomes research application, patient-oriented research development, and translational research support. This comprehensive approach aims to streamline and enhance the breast cancer treatment experience, emphasizing the importance of reconstruction in the healing process.

Dr. Isaac did Diep Flap Breast reconstruction for me followed by two revisions to improve the aesthetic outcome of the procedure. I`m very satisfied with the results and feel very lucky to be under Dr. Isaac`s care. She is a very professional and skilled surgeon and a very kind, caring, supportive doctor who answered all my questions and genuinely cared about me. I would highly recommend her.

Coming from Toronto I was referred to Dr. Isaak by the best Plastic Surgeon at Princess Margaret Cancer Center. That said I knew I was in good hands. She is smart, professional, friendly and caring. Most important she is exceptionally knowledgeable. Breast cancer changes you but Dr. Kathryn Isaak can make this change beautiful. I’m forever grateful.
