About Dr. David Smithson
Dr. Smithson graduated with first-class honours from Queen’s University’s Smith School of Business and subsequently earned his medical degree from Western University’s Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry in London, Ontario. His commitment to excellence continued with residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Western, where he achieved fellowship certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Dr. Smithson further specialized in Gynecologic Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of Ottawa.
With a patient-centric focus, Dr. Smithson is dedicated to providing evidence-based reproductive care, aiming to support individuals in their journey toward building a family. His clinical interests span male factor infertility, fertility preservation, third-party reproduction, and optimizing fertility treatments through surgical techniques.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Smithson is actively engaged in research, particularly in health economics and decision modeling. His contributions to the field are evident in peer-reviewed journal articles and oral presentations. Committed to medical education, he continues to play a role in teaching medical students and residents at the University of Alberta.
Dr. Smithson’s involvement in professional organizations, including the Council of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility committee of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada, highlights his dedication to advancing the field and contributing to healthcare policy and standards.
