Dr. Alex Viezel-Mathieu graduated with great distinction from McGill University, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Anatomy. He then attended medical school at the same institution, which was ranked as the top medical school in Canada. During his medical studies, Dr. Viezel-Mathieu developed a strong passion for plastic surgery, leading him to be selected as one of the top applicants for McGill’s competitive residency program in plastic surgery.
Following his successful residency, Dr. Viezel-Mathieu pursued further specialization through a fellowship at the University of Toronto. This additional year of training focused on breast reconstruction and aesthetic surgery, in which he gained extensive experience working alongside some of North America’s leading aesthetic and reconstructive surgeons. His time in Toronto allowed him to refine his surgical techniques and deepen his expertise in complex reconstructive procedures.
In addition to his clinical training, Dr. Viezel-Mathieu was deeply involved in academic pursuits. During his residency, he completed the Surgeon Scientist Program and obtained a Master’s Degree focusing on breast surgery. He was named the top junior surgical resident across all specialties, received several teaching awards, and was honoured with the Benjamin Shore prize. This prestigious award is given to the graduating resident who demonstrates exceptional professionalism and achieves the highest score on the exit exam.
