Breast Fat Transfer

Breast fat transfer, also called autologous fat grafting, uses liposuction to take fat from an area such as the abdomen or thighs, purifies it, and injects it into the breasts in fine layers. It suits people who want a modest, natural-feeling increase in size, usually around half a cup to one cup size per session, rather than a large change. Because the fat is harvested by liposuction, most people also see some contouring in the donor area.

Not all of the transferred fat survives. Roughly 50 to 70 percent settles in as living tissue, and surgeons plan for that by grafting a little extra. Volume usually stabilizes by about six months, and what remains behaves like the rest of your body fat, so it holds steady at a stable weight. Recovery takes about two to four weeks, and some people choose a second session later to build more volume.
