A well-defined chin and neck are often associated with youth and vitality. However, factors such as aging, genetics, and weight fluctuations can lead to the accumulation of excess fat in these areas, resulting in a "double chin" or a less contoured jawline. Chin and neck liposuction offers a solution to address these concerns, providing a more sculpted and refined appearance.

Understanding Chin and Neck Liposuction

Chin and neck liposuction, also known as submental or cervical liposuction, is a cosmetic procedure designed to remove excess fat deposits beneath the chin and along the neck. This minimally invasive surgery involves the use of a small cannula to suction out unwanted fat, enhancing the definition between the neck and jawline. It's important to note that while the term "chin liposuction" is commonly used, the procedure targets the area under the chin and the neck, not the chin itself.

Benefits of Chin and Neck Liposuction

Undergoing chin and neck liposuction can offer several benefits:

Ideal Candidates

Chin and neck liposuction is suitable for individuals who:

It's essential to recognize that while liposuction removes excess fat, it does not address issues related to skin laxity or muscle banding. Individuals with significant skin sagging may require additional procedures, such as a neck lift, to achieve optimal results.

The Procedure

The chin and neck liposuction procedure typically involves the following steps:

  1. Anesthesia: The area is numbed using local anesthesia, and patients may also receive a sedative to ensure comfort during the procedure.
  2. Incision: A small incision, approximately 2 mm in length, is made in the natural crease under the chin.
  3. Fat Removal: A cannula is inserted through the incision to suction out excess fat, sculpting the area to achieve the desired contour.
  4. Closure: Due to the small size of the incision, stitches are often unnecessary; a small piece of surgical tape may be used to close the incision.

The entire procedure typically takes about 45 minutes and is performed on an outpatient basis.

Recovery and Aftercare

Post-operative care is straightforward:

It's normal to experience mild discomfort, swelling, and bruising in the initial days following the procedure. These symptoms typically subside within a week.

Combining Procedures for Enhanced Results

In some cases, combining chin and neck liposuction with other treatments can yield more comprehensive results:

With the growing demand for less invasive procedures and more natural-looking results, breast augmentation might not be the first procedure that comes to mind… or is it?

Introducing the Liquid Breast Lift™—a cutting-edge technique pioneered by Dr. Sean Rice, a renowned plastic surgeon in Toronto, Canada. This innovative procedure offers a temporary, non-surgical solution to breast augmentation using hyaluronic acid, with no downtime and natural-feeling results.

Final Thoughts

What is the Liquid Breast Lift?

The Liquid Breast Lift™ involves the strategic injection of hyaluronic acid into the sub-glandular plane between the muscle and breast tissue. This method mimics the effects of a traditional breast implant by pushing the breast tissue forward, enhancing the breast's shape and volume without the need for surgery.

Dr. Rice describes this technique as a game-changer, especially for those hesitant about permanent implants. "We're not injecting into the breast tissue itself," he explains. "The filler acts like an implant, creating a fuller appearance that looks and feels natural."

Why Choose the Liquid Breast Lift over Surgery?

The Liquid Breast Lift™ offers a compelling alternative to traditional breast implants. While traditional implants can significantly increase breast size, they come with potential complications such as visible scarring and lengthy recovery times.

In contrast, the Liquid Breast Lift™ provides a more conservative enhancement without surgery. "A lot of women assume breast augmentation means drastic changes, but that's not the case with the Liquid Breast Lift," says Dr. Rice. "We can create a subtle, natural enhancement without the extended recovery time associated with surgery."

One of the key advantages of the Liquid Breast Lift™ is its non-permanent nature, offering flexibility for women who may want to adjust or reverse their enhancement over time. "Some women love the idea of a temporary solution. It gives them the flexibility to change their look or decide later that they want something more permanent," Dr. Rice explains.

Additionally, the Liquid Breast Lift™ is praised for its natural results. "Patients often tell us how natural their breasts feel after the procedure. When someone touches them, they can't tell the difference—it feels just like natural breast tissue," Dr. Rice shares.

Ideal Candidates for Liquid Breast Lift

The Liquid Breast Lift™ is perfect for those seeking a subtle, natural enhancement without the commitment of permanent implants. Whether you’re dealing with breast asymmetry, post-pregnancy volume loss, weight loss, or just noticing the effects of aging, this procedure can rejuvenate your breasts. It effectively addresses issues like hollowness, sagging, loose skin, and volume loss, restoring a more youthful and balanced contour at any stage of life.

Does the Liquid Breast Lift Migrate?

One common concern with injectable treatments is whether the product might migrate from its intended location. Dr. Rice assures patients that the Liquid Breast Lift™ is designed to stay in place. "When placed correctly, it stays exactly where it's supposed to, maintaining the intended shape and volume.”

Dr. Rice emphasizes the importance of having the procedure performed by a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon and advises that proper placement is crucial. “This isn't something you want to be done by just anyone. Expertise ensures the filler remains where it should, providing natural-looking, stable results.”

He also notes that some practitioners dilute the filler, which can lead to migration and less satisfactory results. “We don't do that here. We ensure the product stays in place, providing the desired outcome."

For the best results, Dr. Rice and his team at LBL Clinics or Rice Cosmetic Surgery are the experts you can trust.

How Long Does the Liquid Breast Lift Last?

A common question is how long the results of the Liquid Breast Lift™ last. Dr. Rice explains that the hyaluronic acid used in the procedure typically lasts between 1 and 2 years, with most patients returning annually for a touch-up.

How Safe is the Liquid Breast Lift?

Safety is paramount, and Dr. Rice is meticulous about maintaining high standards. One significant advantage of the Liquid Breast Lift™ is that it doesn't require general anesthetic, and is instead performed while the patient is awake.

For those who may feel anxious, laughing gas (ProNox) is available to help ease discomfort, though most patients find the procedure tolerable without it.

What is the Downtime Like?

One of the benefits of the Liquid Breast Lift™ is that there is virtually no downtime. Dr. Rice notes that patients can return to the gym immediately, though he advises wearing a sports bra during workouts.

As the breast tissues stretch to accommodate the filler post-procedure, some may feel slight increases in discomfort.

Fortunately, this discomfort is short-lived. By the second day post-procedure, most patients describe the sensation as more of an "uncomfortable" feeling, similar to how lips feel after being injected with filler. By the third day, most patients are back to normal activities, with any lingering discomfort easily managed with Tylenol.

As the filler settles, the breasts may initially feel firm and look more pronounced. However, the filler absorbs water over about two weeks, softening the breasts and achieving a more natural look and feel. The initial firmness might be slightly more noticeable for patients with less existing breast tissue, but it will soften and blend naturally as the filler fully integrates.

Financing the Liquid Breast Lift with Beautifi

Investing in your confidence and well-being shouldn't be hindered by financial constraints. That's why Dr. Sean Rice has partnered with Beautifi to offer flexible financing options for the Liquid Breast Lift™.

Cosmetic Dentistry Beyond Vanity: Health Benefits You Didn't Know

While the primary goal of cosmetic dentistry is to improve the appearance of your teeth, the health benefits are equally significant. Procedures such as dental implants, veneers, and orthodontics can address structural issues that may lead to serious health problems. For instance, misaligned teeth can cause bite problems, leading to jaw pain and even temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders. Correcting these issues not only enhances your smile but also alleviates discomfort and prevents further complications.

Teeth whitening and cleaning remove stubborn stains and plaque that regular brushing cannot. This makes your teeth look brighter and reduces the risk of cavities and gum disease. Therefore, investing in cosmetic dentistry is a proactive approach to maintaining optimal oral health.

The Surprising Impact of Cosmetic Issues on Oral Health

Cosmetic dental issues such as gaps, chips, and overcrowding are not merely aesthetic concerns. They can significantly impact your oral health. Crooked or overlapping teeth are harder to clean, increasing the risk of tooth decay and gum disease. Gaps between teeth can lead to food particles getting trapped, causing bad breath and potential gum issues.

Moreover, missing teeth can cause the remaining teeth to shift, leading to misalignment and bite problems. These issues can contribute to improper chewing and digestion problems. Addressing these cosmetic concerns enhances your smile and protects your oral health from future complications.

Financial Obstacles to Cosmetic Dentistry: Dispelling Myths

One of the biggest misconceptions about cosmetic dentistry is that it’s expensive and only for the wealthy. While some procedures can be costly, Beautifi offers affordable monthly payment plans that make cosmetic dentistry accessible to a wider range of budgets. These plans allow you to spread out the cost, making it easier to invest in your dental health without financial strain.

Investing in cosmetic dentistry can save money in the long run by preventing more severe dental issues that require extensive and expensive treatments. The psychological benefits, such as increased confidence and improved social interactions, can positively impact various aspects of life, including career opportunities. Beautifi’s payment plans ensure that you can achieve a beautiful, healthy smile without compromising your financial stability.

The True Costs: How Pricing Varies by Procedure

The cost of cosmetic dentistry varies widely depending on the procedure and the complexity of the case. Here's a breakdown of some common cosmetic dental procedures and their average costs:

Teeth Whitening: Ranges from $200 to $1,000, depending on whether you opt for at-home kits or in-office treatments.

Dental Veneers: Typically cost between $800 to $2,500 per tooth, but they offer a long-lasting solution for chipped, stained, or misaligned teeth.

Orthodontics (Braces/Invisalign): Can range from $3,000 to $8,000, depending on the duration of treatment and the specific issues being addressed.

Dental Implants: One of the more expensive options, ranging from $1,500 to $6,000 per tooth, but they provide a permanent solution for missing teeth.

Understanding these costs can help you plan and budget for the procedures you need, making cosmetic dentistry more accessible.

Insurance and Cosmetic Dentistry: What's Covered?

Navigating insurance coverage for cosmetic dentistry in Canada can be challenging, as it varies widely depending on the province and individual insurance policies. Here’s a general overview of the average insurance coverage for common cosmetic dental procedures across Canada:

Average Coverage by Procedure

Dental Implants: Partial coverage is possible, often under specific conditions such as medical necessity or pre-authorization. While the extent of coverage can vary, many insurance plans offer some financial assistance for implants due to their functional benefits.

Teeth Whitening: Generally not covered across most provinces. Teeth whitening is considered a purely cosmetic procedure, and dental insurance plans typically do not provide coverage for it.

Veneers: Generally not covered across most provinces. Like teeth whitening, veneers are usually deemed cosmetic, and insurance plans do not cover these procedures.

Orthodontics (Braces/Invisalign): Partial coverage may be available if the treatment is deemed medically necessary. This can vary by province, but on average, you can expect some level of coverage, especially for children and adolescents.

It's crucial to review your insurance policy and discuss your options with your dentist. Many Canadian dental practices offer monthly payment plans through Beautifi to help manage the costs. Being well-informed about what your insurance covers can significantly reduce your out-of-pocket expenses, making it easier to invest in both the appearance and health of your smile.

The Science of Sun Damage: What Really Happens to Your Skin

Sun exposure can lead to various skin issues, primarily caused by ultraviolet (UV) radiation. UV radiation penetrates the skin, causing direct damage to DNA and generating free radicals, which can further harm cellular structures. Over time, this damage accumulates, leading to:

Understanding these effects underscores the importance of protective measures and effective treatments to mitigate sun damage.

Common Myths About Sun Damage

There are numerous misconceptions about sun damage and its treatment. Let's address some of the most common myths:

Myth: You can't tan with sunscreen.

Fact: You can still get a tan while wearing sunscreen. Sunscreen helps protect your skin from harmful UV rays, but it doesn't completely block out all the sun's rays. Although it will be a slower process compared to tanning without any protection, it's the safer alternative.

Myth: Only fair-skinned people need to worry about sun damage.

Fact: While fair-skinned individuals are more prone to sunburn, everyone, regardless of skin tone, can suffer from sun damage and skin cancer.

Myth: Sun damage is only a concern in the summer.

Fact: UV rays can harm your skin year-round, even on cloudy days and during winter.

Myth: Tanning beds are a safer alternative to natural sunlight.

Fact: Tanning beds emit UV radiation that can cause the same, if not more, damage as natural sunlight.

Myth: Once the damage is done, it's irreversible.

Fact: While prevention is crucial, various treatments can significantly improve sun-damaged skin.

Effective Treatments: What Works

When it comes to sun-damaged skin treatment, several options have proven effective:

Procedures:

How to Choose the Right Sun Damage Treatment

Choosing the right sun damage treatment involves several considerations:

Consultation with a Dermatologist: A professional assessment can determine the extent of your sun damage and recommend suitable treatments.

Skin Type and Condition: Treatments should be tailored to your skin type and underlying conditions. What works for others doesn't necessarily mean it'll work for you!

Treatment Goals: Whether you're aiming to reduce hyperpigmentation, improve texture, or address wrinkles, different treatments offer varying benefits.

Downtime and Recovery: Consider how much time you can afford to spend recovering from treatments, as some procedures require significant downtime.

Long-Term Maintenance: Keeping Your Skin Healthy

Post-treatment, maintaining your skin's health is vital to prevent further damage and prolong the results:

Daily Sunscreen Use: Broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher, applied every two hours when exposed to the sun.

Regular Dermatologist Visits: Routine check-ups to monitor skin health and catch any issues early.

Healthy Lifestyle Choices: A balanced diet rich in antioxidants, staying hydrated, and avoiding smoking.

Consistent Skincare Routine: Incorporating products suited to your skin type that provide hydration, protection, and repair.

Skinvive™ by Juvéderm has recently taken the world by storm as the first hyaluronic acid (HA) microdroplet injectable treatment designed to add hydration directly into the skin with results that last up to nine months.

As we age and experience prolonged sun exposure, the natural levels of hyaluronic acid in our skin decrease, and topical skin care can only go so far. With Skinvive™, microdroplets of hyaluronic acid are injected into the dermis layer to increase skin smoothness, hydration, without adding shape or volume to your face.

Conclusion

What is Skinvive™?

Skinvive™ is the first and only hyaluronic acid microdroplet injectable designed to improve skin smoothness of the cheeks and hydrate from within. As hyaluronic acid increases your skin’s natural hydrating ability to retain moisture and softness, this innovative treatment provides a lasting glow for up to nine months with just one optimal treatment. Unlike traditional treatments requiring multiple sessions, Skinvive™ delivers results efficiently and effectively.

How Does Skinvive™ Work?

As we age and experience prolonged sun exposure, the natural levels of hyaluronic acid in our skin decrease. Skinvive™ addresses this issue by utilizing microdroplets of hyaluronic acid to combat texture changes and dullness. These microdroplet injections replenish the cheeks with hyaluronic acid, aiding the skin in retaining its natural moisture and softness. This process significantly enhances the skin's smoothness and texture, resulting in a radiant and hydrated appearance.

Is Skinvive™ a Filler?

While Skinvive™ is technically a filler due to its hyaluronic acid content, it differs from traditional fillers. Rather than altering the face's shape or volume, Skinvive™ is specifically designed to improve your skin’s internal hydration for more glowing skin. This makes it an ideal choice for those seeking a natural-looking enhancement.

How Much Downtime Does Skinvive™ Have?

One key benefit of Skinvive™ is its minimal downtime. Compared to other skin treatments that may require up to two weeks of recovery, Skinvive™ allows patients to return to their daily activities with minimal interruption quickly.

How Long Does Skinvive™ Treatment Take?

The Skinvive™ treatment is quick and convenient, typically taking about 15 minutes to inject. This time frame does not include the initial consultation and evaluation, making it an efficient option for those with busy schedules.

How Often Will I Need to Get Skinvive™?

Skinvive's results can last up to nine months with optimal treatment. Some patients may need a touch-up to achieve their desired aesthetic effect, and regular six-nine month treatments are generally recommended to maintain the benefits.

Is Skinvive™ is Safe for All Skin Types and Tones?

Skinvive™ has been studied and proven safe for all skin types and tones. The treatment is inclusive and effective, ensuring everyone can achieve smoother, more hydrated skin regardless of shade.

Is Skinvive™ a Moisturizer?

Although Skinvive™ contains hyaluronic acid, commonly found in moisturizing creams and serums, it functions differently. The hyaluronic acid in Skinvive™ attracts water within the skin, keeping the cheeks hydrated and smooth from the inside out, which is more effective than topical applications.

How Much Does Skinvive™ Cost?

The cost of Skinvive™ can vary based on location and provider, but it typically ranges around $650 per treatment session. It is essential to consult with a licensed specialist to get an accurate estimate and determine the best treatment plan for your needs.

According to Dr. Power, there are two common types of labiaplasty techniques: trim and wedge. Both techniques are effective in reducing labia projection, however the technique recommended for you will be based on your specific concerns and discussed during your consultation.

Trim Labiaplasty: This technique shortens the inner labia and restores pink, healthy tissue at the edge. The scar is generally subtle once fully healed.

Wedge Labiaplasty: This technique also reduces the size and contours the inner labia.  It generally appears natural once fully healed, but does not remove any darkening if present along the edge.

The technique recommended for you will be based on your specific concerns and clinical examination.  Dr. Power will draw diagrams during your consultation to explain the techniques in more detail and what is best to achieve your specific goals.

How Is a Labiaplasty Typically Performed?

Trim Labiaplasty:

During a trim labiaplasty procedure, the excess length of the inner labia that projects beyond the outer labia is resected. This technique also removes any darkened tissue that concerns some patients and may be present at the edge.

Wedge Labiaplasty:

During a wedge labiaplasty, a V-shaped wedge of inner labia is removed to reduce its size and contour shape. Unlike a trim labiaplasty, the wedge labiaplasty technique does not resect the darkened edge of tissue.

“Labiaplasty surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure under local anesthetic in a minor procedure room. This ensures maximum patient privacy and comfort.”

Dr. Stephanie Power

What Are the Risks of Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is generally a well-tolerated procedure.

Surgical Risks: As with any surgical procedure, there is risk of bleeding and infection.  Following post-op instructions will help to lower these risks.  The inner labia often have differences between sides before surgery, which will be assessed during your consultation. There is a risk of asymmetry after surgery.  Risk of sensitive scar formation or altered sensation are very low.

Aesthetic Complications: Additional aesthetic complications include overcorrection, under-correction, dissatisfaction with the cosmetic result, and the potential need for revision surgery.

"The majority of patients report improved self-image post-operatively, which may lead to enhanced sexual experience and self-confidence."

Dr. Stephanie Power

Does Labiaplasty Leave Scars?

Labiaplasty leaves scars, which are typically inconspicuous once healed. As noted by Dr. Power, following post-op instructions about Vaseline application and proper wound care over the first few weeks which help to minimize scarring.

“If risk factors for greater scarring are identified during your consultation, this will be discussed in detail before undergoing labiaplasty."

Dr. Stephanie Power

What Should I Expect on the Day of Labiaplasty?

Anesthetic Application: On the day of surgery, you will be advised to apply topical anesthetic cream to the area an hour before your procedure.  This will reduce discomfort associated with the injection of local anesthetic.

Surgery Procedure: Pre-operative photographs will be taken for your medical record, which remain confidential.  Dr. Power will then show you the surgical markings to confirm you are pleased with the amount of tissue to be removed.  Local anesthetic will then be injected.  Surgery itself generally takes between 30-60 minutes, depending on whether one or both sides are being reduced.  Dissolvable stitches will be placed, which generally fall out over the first 10 days or so.

Post-Operative Care: You will rest and apply a cold compress for 15-minutes after surgery followed by reassessment by Dr. Power before you are safely discharged home.  You will receive post-op instructions and Dr. Power’s after-hours contact information should concerns arise at any time

during your healing.

How Long does Labiaplasty Take to Heal

Most patients are able to return to school or work within a few days of surgery. Follow up appointments are scheduled at approximately ten days and 6 weeks after surgery.  It is important to refrain from exercise for one month and sexual activity and biking for 6 weeks until medically cleared based on your healing. Baths or swimming should also be avoided until the incisions are well-healed, generally 3-4 weeks following labiaplasty.

Does Labiaplasty Affect Sensation?

While there is a risk of developing sensation changes after many types of surgery,  the risk of permanently altered sensation after labiaplasty is very low.  Dr. Power has never had a patient develop this rare complication after having performed hundreds of labiaplasty over the last 10 years.

The quest for clear skin has led to countless solutions, from over-the-counter creams to prescription medications. What Is Forever Clear BBL®?

Forever Clear BBL® is a cutting-edge acne treatment that utilizes Broadband Light (BBL) technology. BBL is an intense pulsed light therapy targeting specific skin conditions with high-intensity light waves. Unlike traditional acne treatments, Forever Clear BBL® addresses the root causes of acne by eliminating bacteria, reducing inflammation, and stimulating the skin's natural healing processes.

Developed by Sciton, the Forever Clear BBL® device is designed to provide a comprehensive solution for acne-prone skin. It delivers light energy deep into the skin, targeting acne-causing bacteria and reducing the sebaceous glands' activity. This innovative approach helps clear existing acne and prevents future breakouts, making it a popular choice for those seeking long-term acne relief.

Traditional Acne Treatments

Traditional acne treatments have been the go-to solutions for decades. These include topical treatments, oral medications, and various cosmetic procedures. While many of these treatments can be effective, they often come with various side effects and limitations.

Topical Treatments

Topical treatments, such as benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, and retinoids, are commonly used to treat mild to moderate acne. These products work by exfoliating the skin, unclogging pores, and reducing inflammation. However, they can cause dryness, irritation, and peeling, which may be uncomfortable for some users.

Oral Medications

Oral medications, including antibiotics and hormonal treatments, are often prescribed for moderate to severe acne. Antibiotics help reduce inflammation and kill bacteria, while hormonal treatments regulate hormone levels to prevent breakouts. Although these medications can be effective, they may lead to side effects such as gastrointestinal issues, mood swings, and increased sensitivity to sunlight.

Cosmetic Procedures

Cosmetic procedures like chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and laser therapy are also used to treat acne and improve skin texture. These treatments can be beneficial for those with severe acne and acne scars. However, they may require multiple sessions, and recovery times can vary. Additionally, these procedures can be costly and may not be suitable for all skin types.

How Forever Clear BBL® Works

Forever Clear BBL® utilizes Broadband Light technology to treat acne in three steps:

Step 1: Blue BBL Light

The first step involves using blue BBL light to target acne-causing bacteria (Propionibacterium acnes) on the skin's surface. This light penetrates the skin and destroys the bacteria, reducing the risk of new breakouts.

Step 2: Yellow BBL Light

The second step uses yellow BBL light to reduce inflammation and redness associated with acne. This light helps to calm the skin, promoting faster healing and reducing the appearance of acne lesions.

Step 3: Infrared Light

The final step involves using infrared light to stimulate the skin's natural healing processes and promote collagen production. This helps to improve the overall texture and tone of the skin, reducing the appearance of acne scars and leaving the skin looking healthier and more radiant.

Combining these three steps makes Forever Clear BBL® a comprehensive and effective solution for treating acne and improving skin health.

Comparing Results and Efficacy

When comparing Forever Clear BBL® to traditional acne treatments, the results and efficacy are significant factors to consider.

Speed of Results

One of the key advantages of Forever Clear BBL® is the speed at which it delivers results. Many users report noticeable improvements in their skin within a few sessions. Traditional treatments, on the other hand, often require weeks or even months to show significant results. This quick turnaround is particularly appealing for those looking to clear their skin before a special event or to regain their confidence swiftly.

Long-Term Effectiveness

Forever Clear BBL® not only treats existing acne but helps prevent future breakouts. Targeting the root causes of acne, such as bacteria and overactive sebaceous glands, provides a more long-term solution than traditional treatments. While topical and oral medications can be effective, they often require continuous use to maintain results. In contrast, the effects of BBL Forever Clear can last longer, reducing the need for ongoing treatment.

Comprehensive Skin Improvement

Beyond acne treatment, Forever Clear BBL® offers additional benefits for overall skin health. The stimulation of collagen production and improved skin texture and tone make it a versatile solution for those seeking more comprehensive skin rejuvenation. While effective for acne, traditional treatments may not provide these additional skin benefits.

Safety and Side Effects

Safety is a crucial consideration when choosing any acne treatment. Forever Clear BBL® is known for its safety and minimal side effects.

Non-Invasive Treatment

One of Forever Clear BBL® primary benefits is that it is a non-invasive treatment. Unlike some cosmetic procedures that require incisions or injections, BBL Forever Clear uses light therapy, which is gentle on the skin. This non-invasive nature reduces the risk of complications and minimizes downtime, allowing users to return to their daily activities immediately after treatment.

Minimal Side Effects

The side effects of Forever Clear BBL® are generally mild and temporary. Some users may experience slight redness or swelling immediately after treatment, but these symptoms typically subside within a few hours. This is in stark contrast to some traditional treatments, which can cause significant side effects such as dryness, irritation, or systemic reactions from oral medications.

Suitable for Various Skin Types

Forever Clear BBL® is suitable for various skin types and tones. Traditional acne treatments can sometimes be limited in their effectiveness for different skin types. Still, BBL technology can be adjusted to suit individual needs, making it a versatile option for many people.

Forever Clear BBL® Cost

When considering any acne treatment, cost is an important factor. The cost of Forever Clear BBL® can vary depending on several factors, including the location of the treatment center, the number of sessions required, and any additional treatments needed. On average, the cost of a single Forever Clear BBL® session can range from $300 to $500.

While this may seem higher than some traditional acne treatments, it's important to consider the long-term benefits and effectiveness of BBL Forever Clear. The need for fewer sessions and the potential for long-lasting results can make it a more cost-effective solution in the long run. Plus, with Beautifi's affordable monthly payment plans, you can rest assured that the investment toward clear skin can work within your budget.

Conclusion

What Is a Phenol Peel

A phenol peel is a type of chemical peel that uses phenol and croton oil, and is one of the strongest skin resurfacing techniques available. Due to its potency, it deeply penetrates the lower dermal layer of the skin, making it highly effective against severe skin imperfections. Phenol peels are particularly known for their ability to significantly reverse signs of aging and to improve skin tone and texture. This peel is often considered a one-time procedure due to its strength and the dramatic results it produces. It also removes sun damage that has built up in your skin and reduce the risk of future skin cancer.

Dr. Goldberg emphasizes the rigor of this treatment: "Phenol peels are a medical-grade procedure. They are the strongest and deepest type of chemical skin peel available. They penetrate the skin deeper than AHA peels to address more serious imperfections such as blotchiness, sun damage, coarse wrinkles around the lips and chin. Typically, only a single treatment is required."

Side-by-side comparison of an older woman showing her face before and after phenol peels. The left image displays more wrinkles and blemishes, while the right reveals smoother skin with reduced imperfections. Her wavy blonde hair remains unchanged in both images.

“Phenol chemical peels are a long-tested procedure proven to generate results.”

Dr. Cory S. Goldberg

How Phenol Peels Work

The mechanism behind a phenol peel involves the careful application of phenol in varying concentrations to the skin, which causes the outer layers of damaged skin to exfoliate and eventually peel off. When the old skin peels away, new skin layers emerge, leading to visibly improved aesthetics. The process triggers a deep injury to the dermal layer, which in turn stimulates the body’s natural production of collagen. Increased collagen production helps to fill in wrinkles and fine lines, while also improving the overall elasticity and thickness of the skin.

Dr. Goldberg outlines the procedure: "Phenol peels offer the most dramatic results because the skin is forced into creating new, thicker collagen. The acids used in chemical peels force the skin to shed the outermost damaged layers. Since deep peels are so strong they are always performed with anesthesia and we will prescribe anti-inflammatory and pain medication to take home after the procedure."

“This is an ablative procedure and involves the removal of the upper layers of the skin.”

Dr. Cory S. Goldberg

The Safety of Phenol Peels

Given their intensity, phenol peels do carry more significant risks compared to milder chemical peels. Potential complications can include changes in skin pigmentation, and rarely scarring. Temporary heart rhythm irregularities can occur during the peel due to the systemic absorption of phenol which can be avoided with correct application and concentrations of the peel. Therefore, it is crucial that a phenol peel be administered by an experienced dermatologist or cosmetic surgeon.

“Phenol peels usually are only used on the face since they can cause scarring on the neck and other parts of the body”

Dr. Cory S. Goldberg

Do Phenol Peels Hurt

Phenol peels are typically associated with a higher level of discomfort compared to lighter peels. This is one reason the phenol croton oil peel is usually done under general anesthesia, and only small areas would be peeled under local anesthesia. Post-treatment, the skin often feels raw and sore as it begins to heal. Pain management, including medications, can be prescribed by your physician to handle discomfort during and after the procedure.

“Since deep peels are so strong they are always performed with anesthesia and our nurse will prescribe pain medication to take home after the procedure."

Dr. Cory S. Goldberg

Recovery for Phenol Peels

Recovering from a phenol peel is a critical component of achieving the best results and maintaining the health of your newly resurfaced skin. Given the intensity of phenol peels, patients should be prepared for a significant recovery period compared to milder chemical peels.

Immediate Aftercare

Immediately after a phenol peel, it is common for the skin to feel very tight and appear significantly red, similar to a severe sunburn. Dr. Goldberg notes, "Your skin will appear red and irritated for a 7- 10 after the treatment. You’ll experience swelling, redness, flaking, and peeling, so you must keep skin hydrated for the first few days following treatment. It will peel for at least one week before fresh, new skin is revealed."

Skin Care Post-Peel

Post-peel skin care is crucial for healing and achieving optimal results. Keeping the skin clean and adequately moisturized is key. Patients are often advised to use gentle, hypoallergenic cleansers and to avoid any products that contain irritants such as alcohol, perfumes, or astringents. Frequent application of ointments like petroleum jelly can help to protect the treated areas and promote healing by keeping them moist. Additionally, strict avoidance of sun exposure is imperative, and broad-spectrum sunscreens should be applied daily once the skin begins to heal.

The Efficacy of Phenol Peels

Phenol peels are highly effective in addressing severe cosmetic concerns. They can dramatically reduce the appearance of deep-set wrinkles, areas of uneven pigmentation, and scars. Many patients report looking years younger following recovery from a phenol peel, with results that can be quite transformative. The efficacy of phenol peels in rejuvenating the skin is well-documented in dermatological literature, with outcomes that often exceed those of other types of chemical peels and non-invasive procedures.

Side-by-side comparison of an older woman before and after phenol peel treatment. The before image reveals wrinkles and sagging skin, while the after image showcases smoother skin and a more youthful appearance. Both images highlight her side profile.

Longevity of Phenol Peel Results

The results of a phenol peel are long-lasting, and patients will have improved skin quality throughout their lifetime following a peel. However, the longevity of the results can vary depending on several factors, including the patient’s skin type, their age, and their post-procedure skincare regimen. Protecting the skin from sun exposure is crucial; failure to do so can lead to premature aging and diminish the long-term outcomes of the peel.

Dr. Goldberg concludes, "Once healing is complete, you’ll see overall improvement in the texture and color of your skin. Effects of phenol skin peels are long lasting with patients seeing dramatic improvements."

Understanding Wisdom Teeth: Why Removal is Necessary

Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars, are the final set of molars to emerge, typically appearing in the late teenage years or early twenties. Although some people experience no problems with their wisdom teeth, and they align perfectly with the rest of their teeth, many others face significant problems that require their removal.

Due to evolutionary changes, our jaws have become smaller and as a result wisdom teeth often do not have enough room to fully erupt. Studies have shown that up to 85% of the population will need to have some or all their wisdom teeth removed at some point in their lives.

According to My Smile Centre Barrie, the decision to remove wisdom teeth is based on the potential problems which can arise, such as infection, impaction, and misalignment. They emphasize that "the necessity of removal depends on whether or not the tooth in question might cause complications in the future."

Signs and Causes of Impacted Wisdom Teeth

Impaction is a common problem that prevents teeth from fully emerging from the gum line. According to My Smile Centre Barrie, this can lead to pain, infection, and damage to adjacent teeth. Even when they emerge correctly, wisdom teeth are often difficult to reach which increases the risk of decay and gum disease.

Preparing for Wisdom Teeth Surgery: Steps to Take

Preparation is essential for a successful surgery and recovery. The team at My Smile Centre Barrie recommends a comprehensive dental examination, including a panoramic X-ray to evaluate the condition of your wisdom teeth. They can identify common issues such as partially erupted and impacted molars, which may require removal. They advise you to consult with your dentist to “determine whether or not your wisdom teeth can stay in place without issues or if they need to be removed to prevent potential damage to your oral health."

You can also expect to discuss your medical history with your dental surgeon, including any medication you are taking, as some may need to be paused or adjusted. Moreover, arranging for someone to drive you home after the surgery is crucial since you will be under the influence of sedation.

The Removal Process: What to Expect

The removal process can vary depending on the complexity of the case. The surgery might involve a simple extraction if the wisdom tooth has fully emerged. However, impacted teeth may require a more involved procedure, including the removal of bone and gum tissue to extract the tooth.

Local anesthesia is typically used to numb the area around the wisdom tooth, though intravenous sedation or general anesthesia may be recommended for patients with anxiety or for complex cases. My Smile Centre Barrie reassures, "An important part in treatment planning is the choice of the appropriate level of sedation for patients to ensure maximum comfort and for patients to ultimately have a positive experience.”

There are important instructions to follow prior to surgery. For example, patients undergoing procedures under sedation have to fast for 8 to 12 hours before the surgery.

Recovery Tips and Managing Discomfort Post-Surgery

Recovery after wisdom teeth surgery can vary, with most patients experiencing mild to moderate discomfort for only a few days. My Smile Centre Barrie outlines the typical recovery diet: "A soft diet is recommended to reduce the load on the masticatory muscles and allow for quicker recovery”. They emphasize the importance of following your dentist's aftercare instructions to ensure a swift recovery. They suggest foods such as blended soups and mashed vegetables for the first couple of days and to avoid spicy, hard or chewy foods, which can cause irritation. It's also crucial to stay hydrated, to rest and to avoid strenuous activities to avoid running into complications.

Potential Complications: Awareness and Prevention

While wisdom teeth removal is generally safe, as with any surgery, there are potential complications. Preventing these complications involves following post-operative instructions closely, maintaining oral hygiene with gentle rinsing with salt water, and avoiding smoking or drinking through a straw. My Smile Centre Barrie lists signs of poor healing, such as severe pain and tenderness, advising patients to "reach out to your dentist" if they suspect issues. They underscore their commitment to providing care that minimizes the risk of complications, ensuring patients are well-informed and supported throughout their recovery.

When planning for wisdom teeth removal, the cost is a significant factor to consider. The price of the procedure varies depending on its complexity and your insurance coverage details. My Smile Centre Barrie is known for offering clear and upfront pricing for their services. They also understand that financial considerations are crucial for dental work, which is why they've partnered with Beautifi to ensure that your wisdom teeth removal is both accessible and financially manageable.
